The following are the factors that make India a federal country:
India has three levels of government, known as the Central, State and the Local Government.Though all these governments govern the same region, they have their own jurisdiction in matters such as legislation, administration and taxation etc.All types of government derive their powers from the Constitution of India thus the Central Government cannot reduce the power of any level of government.The Constitution of India contains three lists which have subjects in which the central and the state governments can form new laws. Accordingly, the Central government can only make laws in the Union list while the state government has the authority to make laws in the state list. Whereas, subjects related to the interest of both governments come under the concurrent list.
