Valency is the number of hydrogen atoms which can combine with one atom of the element forming a compound. The valency of all metals is considered as positive and the valency of all non-metals is considered negative.
An ion is an atom that has acquired a net electric charge by gaining or losing one or more electrons. Ion that has a net negative charge is called anion and an ion that has a net positive charge is called cation.
