Dear Student,
Molarity means 1 mole solute / 1 litre solution
Molality means 1 mole solute / 1 kg solvent
Weight in kg = volume in litres × density in kg / Litre
only for water 1 kg = 1 L
But for other solvents, weight in kg does not equal volume in litre.
Also, the denominator of molarity formula indicates 1 L of solution.
While, the denominator of molality formula indicates 1 kg of solvent.
Thus, if you will remove the solute from 1 L of solution, the total volume of pure solvent would come out less than 1 L.
Hence, even in case of water where 1 L = 1 kg, still there will be little difference between 1 molar solution and 1 molal solution due to the difference of solution and solvent terms in denominators.
Therefore, the given equation is incorrect.
