Quantum mechanics (QM, or quantum theory) is a branch of physics dealing with the behavior of matter and energy on the minute scale of atoms and subatomic particles.
Quantum mechanics also applies to a wider range of situations than general relativity does, e.g., to systems whose scale is atomic or smaller, and to those having very low or very high energies or subjected to the lowest temperatures.
