The potential energy of the dipole is given as

Now comma space in space first space case colon straight theta less than 90 Hence comma space straight U equals negative pEcosθ  In space the space second space case comma space straight theta greater than 90 less than 180 therefore cosθ less than 1 Hence comma space straight U equals pEcosθ end style
