What is the nature of electron gain enthalpy and ionisation enthalpy in noble gases and noble metals?

Dear Student,
When an atom gains an electron it releases energy which is called electron gain enthalpy or electron affinity. It's value is negative.
Noble gases/metals have stable electronic configuration. Therefore they have no tendency to accept the electron and therefore, have large positive value of electron gain enthalpy.
We hope that clarifies your query.
