what is the meaning of Swaraj according to the middle class people in non cooperation movement in town

In towns, for the middle class, during the Non Cooperation Movement, Swaraj meant freedom from the British rule. Thousands of students left government-controlled schools and colleges, headmasters and teachers resigned, and lawyers gave up their legal practices. Foreign goods were boycotted, liquor shops picketed, and foreign cloth burnt in huge bonfires. For them, the use of Swadeshi was a weapon to hit the economic interests of Britain.
