System:
In thermodynamics the system is referred to that part of the Universe in which observations are made.
Surrounding:
The remaining portion of the Universe which is not part of a system constitutes the surrounding. It includes everything other than the system.
Universe = System + Surroundings
The wall (real or imaginary) which separates the system from the surroundings is called a boundary.
