Expert Answer
Current can flow through the solenoid in two cases:
(i) If it is connected across a source of potential difference. In this case direction of flow shall depend on the terminals of battery to which it is connected. As per convention, current shall flow from the positive terminal of the battery to the negative terminal.
(ii) If the magnetic field associated with the solenoid changes. This current is called induced current. The direction of induced current (if the circuit is closed) can be determined by Fleming's right hand rule and Lenz's rule.
