potential in a body means capable or becoming ordeveloping something.Anything that may be possible; a possibility; potentially. Existing in possibility, not in actuality.

Whereas potential energy means is the energy stored in a body or in a system due to its position in a force field or due to its configuration. And it is actually existing and possible.
