Chordates have a notochord, dorsally located nerve. Vertebrates have a vertebrae or a back bone. All vertebrates are chordates, but not all chordates are vertebrates.
The main difference between vertebrates and invertebrates is that invertebrates do not have a backbone or a spinal column. Examples of vertebrates include humans, birds and snakes while examples of invertebrates include insects and flatworms.
