The largest triangle that can be inscribed in a semi circle of radius r units is 'an isoceles right triangle ' 
When we join the centre of the semicircle to the vertex of the triangle, it becomes the altitude of that triangle which is equal to the radius of the semi-circle. 
 
 
Area = 1/2 base x height 
1/2 x 2r x r 
= r^2 sq units
