It is a type of reproduction involving the fusion of haploid gametes (a male and a female gamete) to form diploid zygote, which then develops into the offspring. The resulting offspring inherits a set of chromosomes from each parent, resulting in a unique individual.
The two main processes involved in sexual reproduction are :
meiosis, involving the halving of the number of chromosomes; and
fertilization, involving the fusion of two gametes and the restoration of the original number of chromosomes.
