Any physical quantity whinch needs only magnitude for its specification eg. volume, mass, densit etc. are called scalar quantities.
A physical quantity which posses both magnitude and direction is known as as a vector quantity eg. displacement, velocity etc. It is represented by an arrow the direction of which indicates the direction of the quantity and the length of which is proportional to the magnitude.
