what is polarization of light?

light has variations in magnetic field and electric fild in all the directions and is conpletely random in odinary case.
so when we polarizes light, we set up a relation between the electric field variations between different directions perpendicular to the direction of propagaion
for example in case of linearly polarized light, we restric the variations of electric field only to one direction and in other directions perpendicular to the direcion of propagation it is zero.
