WHAT IS PHOTORESPIRATION
Asked by | 15th Jun, 2009, 09:33: PM
Photorespiration is the light-dependent release of carbon dioxide and uptake of oxygen in photosynthetic organisms, caused by the fixation of oxygen instead of carbon dioxide during photosynthesis. Here oxidation of carbohydrates occurs. Photorespiration reduces the rate of photosynthesis in plants.
