What is parathyroid glands? Is it the same as thyroid gland?

Parathyroid glands are not the same as thyroid gland. They are small endocrine glands, situated above or within the thyroid gland. They are 4 in number. They are present one above the other, 2 on each side.
Parathyroid gland secretes a hormone called parathormone that is important for calcium and phosphorus metabolism. It increases blood calcium levels.
