what is orthogonal vector? when the displacement is -ve?

Orthogonal vectors: two mutually perpendicular vectors are know as orthogonal vectors.
 
Negative displacement: Displacement is a vector. So depending on the direction the displacement vector formed by the original and destination points, it can be a negative or positive vector.
