The courts resembles a pyramid if seen from the lower to the highest level:
- The judicial system is stratified into various levels in our country.
- The head of all the courts is the Supreme Court which is located in New Delhi and is presided over by the Chief Justice of India.
- It is then followed by the High Courts at the state level, which is the highest court of that state.
- Each state is divided into districts that are presided over by a District Judge. These courts work under the control of the High Courts.
- Finally comes the Lok Adalats at the village and the Panchayat level.
