Heredity is the transmission of characteristics from one generation to the next. This function is carried out by the chromosomes.
Evolution is a gradual and continuing process of change that occur over a period of time, due to slight variations in genetic compositions as well as changes in environment. Evolution has led to the development of new species in the world. The most primitive of living organisms have developed into the plants and animals of today, through evolution.
