Haploid: Half set of total chromosome number. For example: Humans have total 46 chromosomes but gametes contain only 23 chromosomes. Thus they are called haploid cells.
Diploid: Complete set of chromosomes. After fusion of gametes the zygote formed contains 46 numbers of chromosomes. Hence it is known as diploid cell.
