ER is a large network of membrane bound tubes and sheets, involved in the synthesis, modification, and transport of cellular materials. It also functions as a cytoplasmic framework.
RER is ER with ribosomes attached to their surface. It is involved in protein synthesis.
SER do not have the attached ribosomes. It helps in membrane biogenesis, and also in detoxifying many poisons and drugs in liver cells.
