Endocytosis is a process where cells absorb material (molecules such as proteins) from the outside by engulfing it with their cell membrane.

In other words, endocytosis is the uptake by a cell of material from its environment by a process in which the cell surrounds the material and engulfs it . Phagocytosis and pinocytosis are two kinds of endocytosis
