What is emf? How can it be induced?

Emf or electromotive force is the potential difference between the terminals of a source of electrical energy. It is the p.d. across the terminals of a battery or any other generator in an open circuit.
Emf is induced across the ends of a conductor when there is a change in magnetic lines of force associated with the conductor.
