what is elimination method in linear equation?

Dear Student,
The elemination method can only be used in case of system of 2 or more linear equations. The method requires us to multiply a chosen pair of given equations by some numbers such that the coefficients of a chosen variable becomes same in both equations. We then subtract these equations and as a result the chosen variable is eleminated from the system.
For example consider this system of linear equations:
As you can see that the method of elimination is used for a system of linear equations only, so you can't eliminate x from a single equation.
