What is electrostatic induction?and could you explain me how VAN dE GRAFF generator works?

Expert Answer
Electrostatic induction is the phenomenon of inducing charge on an object without physically touching the object.
This has been clearly explained in Example 1.1 on page 7 of NCERT XII - Part 1 text book.
 
Similarly, Van de Graaff generator has been explained in chapter 2 page 83. If you have any conceptual doubt in Van de Graaff generator then you can post your query.
