WHAT IS DRIFT VELOCITY? PLEASE EXPLAIN ME WITH DERIVATION.

there are free electrons in conductor, and the motion of the electrons is random, now if we connect the conductor under the influence of an electric field, by connecting it to the battery, as we connect conductor with the battery , electrons of the conductor start moving with and collides with the atoms present in the conductor and also have a drift velocity in addition to their random motion.
Please go through the derivation and ask us the steps that you are not able to understand.
