The electric potential at a point in space is equal to the amount of work done in carrying the unit charge from the infinity to that point. It's unit is joule per coulomb or volt. The electric potential is a scalar quantity.
The difference of electric potentials at two points in considerations, is called electric potential difference. The electric potential difference is responsible for the motion of charges between these points.
