what is deviation?

I assume this question is asked in the context of refraction of light. When light travels from one transparent medium to other transparent medium deviation of its 
path take place after the boundary as shown in figure. This is known as refraction of light. In the figure light ray AB which travelling in air incidents at B and travels through BC in glass. Red lines drawn at B and C are normal to boundary. Dashed green lines are undeviated path of light ray. Since glass is denser medium in comparision with air, when light travels from air to glass it deviates towards normal. When light travels from glass to air (denser medium to rarer medium) it deviates away from normal.
