what is corrosion? what is rancidity?

When a metal is attacked by substances around it such as moisture, acids, etc., it is said to corrode and this process is called corrosion. The black coating on silver and the green coating on copper are other examples of corrosion.

 

When oils and fats or foods containing oils and fats are exposed to air or oxygen they get oxidized due to which food becomes stale and its color and smell changes. This is called rancidity.

Example: When a packet of wafer is kept open for a couple of days its taste and smell changes
