Expert Answer
Dear student
A contact force comes into existence as soon as any two surfaces of matter come in contact with each other.
For a book lying on a table top, there are certain electromagnetic interactions between atoms & molecules of the two surfaces (book & table top). The result of these electromagnetic interactions is a contact force exerted by the table top on the book (action) & an equal & opp force on table top by the book (reaction).
The horizontal component of contact force is termed as frictional force. The vertical component of the contact force is termed as normal reaction.
We hope that resolves your doubt.
