The phase of metabolism in which simple substances are synthesized into the complex materials of living tissue is called anabolism. Here, different molecules combine to form larger, more complex molecules, ultimately resulting in building up of tissues.
Respiration is not anabolic, it is a catabolic reaction. Here, glucose is broken down into carbon dioxide and water, so it is a destructive, and not a constructive process.
