what is a synapse? how does a nerve impulse pass through a synapse

Synapse is the junction between the ends of nerve fibers across which nerve impulses pass from one neuron to another.
At the end of the axon, the the elctrical impulse causes the release of chemicals called neurotransmitters. These diffuse across the synapse and triggers an electrical impulse in the next neuron.
