What exactly is the rowlatt act?

The Rowlatt Act of 1919 authorised the British government to arrest and imprison any person without trial and convict him in a court. The authorities could arrest without any warrant and could conduct trial in seclusion. This was an indiscriminate act because after passing this Act, the British could arrest any Indian suspecting of being involved in seditious activities (nationalist activities) without any arrest warrant.
