What exactly is meant by change of direction in AC?

The one cycle of an AC current is as follows
A.) Zero to maximum.
B.) Maximum to zero.
C.) Zero to maximum in opposite direction
D.) and finally maxium to zero.
This is can be explained on the basis of trignometric raion sinθ from 0 to 180 sinθ is positive and from 180 to 360 it is negaitve.
