Argon and Neon are mono-atomic gases. Monoatomic gases are easily ionizable in electric field.
To ionize diatomic and polyatomic molecules , these molecules are to be dissociated first and then energy from
elecric field will be utilized to ionize the dissociated atoms. Hence energy requirement to ionize diatomic and polyatomic
gases is very much higher in comparison with the energy requirement to ionize mono atomic gases.

Energetic electrons generated due to ionizations collide with neon or argon atoms and make it to excited state .
When excited atoms of neon and argon comes to ground state, energy is released in the form of visible light .
