Expert Answer:

the dot product, also known as the scalar product, is an operation which takes two vectors over the real numbers R and returns a real-valued scalar quantity, the dot product of two vectors quantitiy always gives  a scalar product , this is because when unit vector i is multiplied by i the product is unity scalar (similar with j.j or k.k) and rest other gives 0.
