what does a rod of infinite length mean and why only infinite dimension is assumed?

Expert Answer
An infinite length means the length with no finite dimension or very long wire or rod (whatever u assume) whose length is very large.
The assumption that the rod is infinitely long is crucial because if the rod is not infinitely long then we have to take into consideration the end effects. And because of only this assumption any electric or magnetic field will not be dependent on the position of point on which we have to calculate the field.
