A plaroid consists of nicole prims such as to allow the fields to vibrate only in one plane.
Thus if we put a polaroid in the way of a ray.and then another polaroid in the transmitted way such that thier polarity is perpendicular to each other then no ray passes.
Proving that vibrations are perpendicular to the direction of propagation.
