Diffraction is the phenomenon of bending of light around corners of an obstacle in the path of light.
 
Condition: Diffraction of light takes place if the size of the obstacle is comparable to the wavelength of the light. 
 
The condition for secondary maxima is: begin mathsize 12px style asinθ equals nλ over 2 end style
The condition for secondary maxima is: begin mathsize 12px style asinθ equals nλ end style
Where, n = 1, 2, 3, ...
 
The intensity distribution curve is shown below.
