Expert Answer:
When lead nitrate is heated in air, it decomposes to give lead oxide, a reddish brown coloured nitrogen dioxide gas and oxygen.
When lead nitrate crystals are heated strongly, a reddish brown coloured gas is released. This is nitrogen dioxide gas. It has an irritating odour. It turns moist blue litmus red. Hence, it is an acidic gas.
