Expert Answer
Plants absorb excess of water from the soil and prevent it from getting waterlogged. They protect the top layer of the soil against erosion. They shade the soil and reduce evaporation. The roots of plants help in providing channels for water transport. They help in contributing plant litter which adds organic matter to the soil. They help in altering soil composition.
