What do dot product and cross product physically mean? I understand by geometry why dot product is the magnitudes of the two vectors multiplied by the cosine of the smaller angle between them and that the cross product is multiplied by the sine. But, I am unable to understand dot and cross products or relate them to mechanical physics. For instance, why do we multiply the magnitudes of force and displacement with cosine for work? What is the physical significance?
