The post master and all the people working at the post office habitually made fun of Ali who came everyday to the post office expecting a letter from his daughter Miriam.  Sadly after a long wait of five years Ali died before receiving Miriam’s letter. However after Ali’s death the post master’s heart was awakened to sympathise with his plight. The post master reached an understanding as a father where he could connect with the feelings of anxiety and perpetual waiting of old Ali. The post master’s feelings reproached him for failing to comprehend the plight of old Ali. Merely the fear of his daughter’s ill health helped him fathom the gravity of old Ali’s longing.
