what are vectors?

Expert Answer:

vectors have magnitude and direction.

say a sailor is stranded in the middle of the sea. Asking him to move at a speed of 100km/h is not sufficient you also need to tell him in which direction to move if you want him to reach the shore.

For a quantity if direction is mentioned in addition to magnitude, the quantity is a vector. The speed was a scalar quantity.
