what are the uses of esters ?

Esters are used for a variety of things. The main things esters are used for is producing fragrances, and providing artificial flavouring to drinks such as apple juice, orange juice, strawberry kiwi, or anything of the like. Esters are the combination of a carboxylic acid and an alcohol, and they have a wide spread variety of smells.
Please clarify the second part as ethanoic acid and ethanol are not esters.
