Certain functions are performed by all cells whereas certain functions are performed only by certain cells. Various life sustaining activities like feeding, respiration, circulation, excretion, osmoregulation, biosynthesis, growth, reproduction and repair of parts are carried out by all cells.
Specialised functions of cells include contractile properties of muscle cells, passing of electrical impulses by nerve cells, secretion by gland cells, etc.
