What are peroxisomes?

Peroxisomes are small organelles present in cell. They are rounded in shape and are covered by a single membrane. They contain powerful oxidative enzymes. They are important to carry out detoxification in liver and kidney cells. Leaf peroxisomes are important in photorespiration.
