Photosynthesis occurs in 2 stages: Light reaction and dark reaction.
Light reaction is an energy trapping and photochemical reaction, taking place in grana of chloroplast and in presence of light. It synthesises ATP.
Dark reaction is a synthetic process taking place in stroma, in which CO2 is reduced to carbohydrates. It is independent of light.
