Wh is the use of potentiometer prefferd over that of voltmetre for measurement of emf?

Expert Answer:

Dear student
A potentiometer is preferred for the measurement of p.d. because in the position of a balance point, no electric current is drawn  by the potentiometer, from the source whose p.d. is to be measured while a voltmeter always draws a little of current. Therefore, we prefer a potentiometer.
Hope this clarifies your doubt.
